About Family Affair "Family Affair" ran for five seasons on CBS,
spanning 1965 to 1970. The last of sentimental, melancholy, to some sugar coated
sitcoms, and producer Don Fedderson's final hit TV series. the show gave way
to gritty true to life sitcoms like Norman Lear would bring starting with,
of course, All In The Family

'Uncle Bill' (Brian Keith) was no Archie Bunker. Neither was the butler, Mr. French (Sebastian Cabot).
Fashioned somewhat after the 50's sitcom Bachelor Father (John Forsythe's first series hit),
Bill Davis was an affluent bachelor given charge of his adorable nieces and nephews,
Cissy (Kathy Garver), Buffy (Anisa Jones) and Jody (Johnny Whitaker). Despite Uncle Bill's
penchant for swinging golf clubs and swinging in general, he was the caring substitute dad
imparting wisdom to his coming of age brood. Butler French, even with his British discipline,
allowed the sometimes testy kids into his heart. Family Affair was the last of it's
hearthy breed until the struggling WB network attempt to revive it in 2004 with a new cast and
feel very close to the original. Unfortunately, TV fad was saturated in reality like
Survivor and Supernanny, no Mr. French. Despite engaging popular Tim Curry
(Rocky Horror Picture Show) as the butler, the revival lasted only less than a season.

BBHuey Loved this original and loved the 2005 re-make with Tim Curry as well

Lou at Oldies Television responds Ad viewer BBhuey noted, long about 2006, actually, , the CW (then WB) network
tried a new remake with Tim Curry as the butler. It was very true to the original and I thought
would be a hit; unfortunately it was cancelled after only a half a season. Disappointing.
