About Elvis Presley, The King Of Rock & Roll Born Elvis Aaron Presley January 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn and so Elvis grew as an only child. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948 where Elvis graduated Humes High Schoo om June, 1953.
Elvis Presley�s musical influences were pop, country and rockabilly music. But Elvis also venerated gospel music and saw the potential of R&B. In 1954, he began his singing career with the legendary Sun Records label in Memphis under the personal direction of owner Sam Phillips, who also guided Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash to stardom. In late 1955, RCA Victor wanted to sign Elvis, the soon to be King wanted to honor his allegiance with Phillips and Sun Records. Sam urged Elvis to sign with RCA, he would be well reimbursed for his outlay. Elvis' most famous Sun re;ease, That's Alright, Mama remains a classic.

At RCA Victor, bullyish, always right Colonel Tom Parker would become his aggressive manager, who made both great and rash, stupid decisions. It was Elvis' enormous talent and charisma that would prevail over Parker's stubbornly wrong career moves, especially with TV and movie deals. For the record, despite what a Jerry Lee Lewis biopix displays, The King was never jealous of The Killer or any other high profile rock & roll star.

Elvis Presley starred in 33 movies, made history with his television appearances and specials, and knew great acclaim through his many, often record-breaking, live concert performances on tour and in Las Vegas. Globally, he has sold over one billion records. Elvis was awardedthe Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. He was named One of the Ten Outstanding People of the Nation for 1970 by the United States Jaycees. Elvis honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. His talent, good looks, sensuality, personna, and warmhearted personality endeared him to millions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture.

Elvis Aaron Presley died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977 from an apparent overuse of prescription psychotropic drugs.

CountryGirl Carl Perkins claims he would've been the King Of Rock & Roll? Pfffft. Elvis was light years ahead of all the Sun guys including Jerry Lee (who claimed in his egomaniacal bio movie Elvis was jealous of him....yeah, right) and Perkins.
