Mot since Your Hit Parade left television in the mid 60's did a top ten
countdown show hit the television screen until East Orange, New Jersey born singing star
Dionne Warwick hosted the successfully syndicated Solid Gold. Unlike it's
predecessor which used a cast of crooning regulars to sing the hits (the venerable
Snooky Lansen, Dorothy Collins, Russel Arms and Giselle McKenzie), Solid Gold
brought on the actual recording artist of the hit to sing it live. As music videos were
being made in the early 70's, readying for the burgeoning cable music channels, one
Canadian cable producer, far ahead of MTV, produced The Hits, a one hour
array of music videos which comprised the current week's Cash Box top ten.
