In 1979, Christy English appeared as a regular guest on a
local NJ talent cable access show. The response to her
appearance was so impressive, she was given her own nationally
syndicated cable show which featured primarily up and coming
rock, metal and grunge bands with an occasional swerve to
comedians, folk singers and even a female barbershop quartet
However, it was Christy's vocal style (ballad rock with a
folk skew) and the garage bands that put the show on the map.
Christy's show attracted many of the hottest bands from New York's
CBGB's and other East Village famed rock emporiums, even the canle
compamy's program directors directed bands to the show. Combined
with Christy's exceptional photogenic ability to "play to the camera"
and loyal viewers who wrote postal fan mail which stuffed CI's
local origination studio show host's mail boxes, becoming one of
region syndicated cable tv's longest running shows of the time.
In 1981, Bob Russo became a regular doing British Invasion solos
and duets with Christy...a cable Sonny & Cher. The show was
increased from a half hour to hour slot in 1982.
While we are currently seeking rights to these videos,
Christy had guests on her program that made big time. Rockhouse,
who appeared on two Christy Shows, joined with Barry Seltzer
and became global record charters "The Stray Cats," World toured
punk girl band "Catholic Girls" also twice visited Christy's Show
as their first CD for MCA-Universal climbed the Billboard
national and international charts, Syd Symphony appeared as a semi-
regular on The David Letterman Show just after appearing on Christy.
