Since the group broke up in the 70's, there have been several "Platters" groups making appearances.
The most nefarious was the appearance on "The Merv Griffin Show."
Paul Robi, one of the added on members, sang lead on the nationally syndicated show.
Problem was, they were presented as the "Original Platters."
Robi sounded nothing like the original lead singer of The Platters, Tony Williams.
The show received hate mail for the masquerade after the show aired on some 200 hundred stations,
including the then Metromedia owned major market stations.
Seen here are the original members of "The Platters" singing live on Ed Sullivan's
"Toast Of The Town" on CBS in 1957.
