WILLIE WONDERFUL likely was a money loser for it's indie makers, while networks and larger local stations made big bucks from their Saturday morning kiddie line up staples which included Howdy, Pinky and umpteenth time reruns of e.g. Looney Tunes cartoons. The cheaply made, budget restrained, quasi-syndicated puppet/marionette shows like Willie Wonderful, kinescope made at a tiny Boston studio, were relegated to play on the smallest of stations in each market. However, Willie and the nutty duck did develop somewhat of a cult following among what was then the "hippie" set, while tots remained true to better understood puppetry on Saturday mornings, such as the better financed and sponsored Fearless Fosdick and Pinhead.
