LYFE JENNINGS ARRESTED, COPS SAY HE FIRED GUN IN THE AIR & FLED
report by Gil Kaufman MTV News
(Oct 23 08) R&B singer Lyfe Jennings was arrested in Smyrna, Georgia, on Sunday night after police said he fired a gun in the air and attempted to evade arrest by leading them on a high-speed car chase. He was booked on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass, discharging a firearm near a public highway and refusal to take a DUI test, as well as two felony counts of attempting to elude and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jennings, 35, (born Chester Jennings) was attempting to locate the mother of his children, Joy Pound, when he allegedly kicked in the door of a house in Smyrna and later fired a gun in the street. Corporal Milton Lane of the Smyrna Police Department told MTV News that when police arrived on the scene to respond to the shots fired in what they believed was a domestic dispute, they witnessed a red 2005 Corvette leaving the address.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, and Jennings was apprehended after he crashed the car. Once he was stopped, the warrant in the case said he refused a field sobriety test and police smelled "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from his mouth. TMZ has posted a copy of the arrest report.
Jennings posted $50,000 bond on Monday night. At press time, a spokesperson at the singer's label had no comment on the incident.
Before launching his music career, Jennings began a 10-year prison sentence on a felony arson charge in 1992 at age 19. Shortly after his release, he made a name for himself by winning the amateur contest at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, and released his first album, Lyfe 268-192, in 2004.
"WHICH KIKKDADDY GIRL WILL GET SNUFFED IN THE MOVIE SNITCH&SS?
The flick being shot next summer brings two rival gangs together to get back at an
ex-streetwalker snitch who ratted a leader out to the feds. They kidnap her sisters
and all hell breaks loose when the hood gets tight. A violent, gritty action film,
it will feature some new rappers with a strong message. It's being shot on
the streets of Harlem. The message and the music is strong.

LIL' KIM SLAMMED WITH A BIG ASS LAW SUIT
(Oct 8 08) Rapper Lil' Kim has been sued by record label Brookland Media,
which claims, in court papers that it entered into a $2.5 million contract earlier this year
with the tough rapper, who failed to deliver all the recordings
allegedly required under her contract with Brookland.
According to The Associated Press, the suit has been filedin Manhattan's state Supreme Court.
The ;otogant asserts that Brookland has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on recordings,
equipment and advances on Lil'Kim, and that she has refused to record another note unless her contract
is renegotiated. Brookland, which was founded by producers Poke and Tone (a.k.a. the Trackmasters, who produced tracks for Jay-Z, Nas, Will Smith and Destiny's Child), claims that it has spent thousands to rebuild Kim's career, and that the label was founded for the specific purpose of issuing her next opus.
The rap singer's attorney, Londell McMillan, contends Brookland sued his client "to leverage their own position" in the contract dispute.
Court papers assert that Kim had recorded just a few tracks for her album early last month, and Brookland would like the court to declare the contract valid, thus preventing Kim from going to another label with the songs. A judge did grant a temporary injunction to that effect, the New York Daily News reports.
The suit further claims Kim has made "outlandish" post-contract demands of the label; one involved securing Wyclef Jean and Akon as producers for her album. According to the Daily News, Brookland is now withholding $200,000 it pledged to pay Atlantic Records, Kim's former label, to spring her from her contract obligations.

LIL WAYNE SIDEKICK TESTIFIES
(Oct 08 08) Lil Wayne's Assistant Testifies in Gun Trial(E! Online) Los Angeles (E! Online) – Was Lil Wayne packing heat?
That's the question facing jurors at "The Block Is Hot" rapper's trial on gun charges in Manhattan Monday.
Terry Bourgeois, Lil Wayne's assistant, testified he saw a handgun "occasionally" on the hip-hopster's tour bus and witnessed various people smoking marijuana, but he could not specifically single out the 26-year-old Wayne for possessing said .40-caliber pistol nor say if one was present when the latter was taken into custody.
Last month, a police officer told jurors she searched the vehicle after detecting the scent of cannabis as it was parked outside New York's Beacon Theatre following a July 2007 concert. She then said she spied the MC attempting to stash the firearm.
Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) has pleaded not guilty to criminal possession of a weapon and remains free on $70,000 bond. If he's convicted, he could face up to three and a half years in the slammer.
His attorney, Stacey Richman, could not be reached for comment. But she is seeking to have the charges tossed on the grounds that New York's Finest falsified the pot claim in order to conduct a search of the vehicle.
According to Newsday, another eyewitness, 47-year-old Derrick Parker, a security guard hired by the concert promoter who was on the scene that night, testified he did not smell or see any marijuana on our outside the bus.
The legal eagle also pointed out the gun authorities found was registered to Cortez Bryant, whom Bourgeouis identified as Lil Wayne's manager.
