The Do's & Don'ts:
The Carlson International Entertainment-Communications Group & it's
Glossary Of "Show Biz" Lingo:

Talent Development, Management, Representation plus
One Of The Creative Art's Oldest Independent Artists' Management Services
a half century of major market talent direction
ABOUT US:
and our 48 Years As New York's TalentPower Resource
Carlson International was established in 1962., when noted musical arranger, producer
and publisher Fred Barovick (credits include musical production for recordings by
Nat King Cole and Elvis Presley) established Carlson International as a record label
from his Brill Building (1619 Broadway, suite 1018) New York office.
He placed the management and A&R (artists & repertoire) auspice
in the hands of Louis Ferriol, who had been a freelance producer in New York.
By 1967, Ferriol expanded Carlson International to encompass talent management services. Then, in 1972, moving to offices at 250 West 57th Street.
'CI' entered into motion pictures and television production with it's first feature, "Tomorrow Is Just Another Yesterday" and an array of syndicated cable television shows including the ACE award winning "Spotlight On Entertainment"
The production company employed it's own crew and teamed with casting director/agent Dorothy Palmer to cast theatrical features..
In 2002, Carlson International's launched
"Xoteria.TV"
featuring classic and contemporary arts & entertainment,
education, information, film-video-music "Web-TV" streaming." We are pleased that our online
viewing audience has quadrupled in the last two years, according to Nielsons numbers.
This year, 2010.
This year, as talent directors, Carlson International has managed
open and closed audition calls for motion pictures "Star, Baby"
and "Strangehaven II," TV/Web TV "Dancing To The Oldies," infomercials
"Satura 77" and "Custom Make-up Makers" and will be managing casting
calls for theatrical feature "Castles In The Sky (2011)"
and infomercial "Leg Magique" mylegsmadebeautiful.com and printwork "MyStuff"
and "Specialties." Our contracted casting directors: Michael Citriniti,
Louise Lasser, Diane Myerson.
Our root is talent direction, management of selected New York areas
outstanding actors, models, dancers, singers and rock bands.
From a new office facility at 1133 Broadway, Suite 708 in New York
(interviews strictly by appointment only),
Carlson International is pleased to provide services without charge to the creative community
encompassing free consult/directional services and promotional assistance,
on a selective, qualifying basis,
with no profit motive primary, simply a 17% commission on all jobs
attained for our clients to cover expenses and pay the bills. Our love is the love for talent and the arts.
The Carlson International Difference From the person-to-person
sixties to cyber now, we interact with our clients one on one (see below). There is
no "one size fits all" in talent management, because every talent is unique and
"carbon copy" promotions do not work (never did, never will). Every publicity
kit, press release is "tailor made" for each client. Websites are not single or
four page templates that look like the promotional website of every other talent;
because we own Xoteria.tv servers, every client's website has virtually
unlimited expanse (number of pages and bandwidth for images and video)
and is provided at no cost to clients whom we select to represent. When
our clients are scheduled for an open or closed audition, interview, or
"go-sees," we individually provide direction and guidance for the best
possible outcome. Coaching and consultations are manager to client,
not grouped. Carlson International's talent direction/management
Terms Of
Service are easy to understand, written in plain English, not
convoluted legal trade talk. We invite you to use any of the facilities below to
contact us (live online usually between 11AM and 9PM).
Carlson International talent direction/management and multimedia web
services are now non-profit, community based. There is no profit motive,
only to continue providing our upper most professional experience and expertise.
We also support worthy charities, such as the St. Jude's Childrens Research
Hospital.
And Remember: Legitimate Agents & Managers Do Not Charge Fees in Advance
(Read legendary agent Nina Blanchard's article on our
Talent Self Help
Webpage). Never pay an advance fee for representation, promotion,
so-called 'compcard' website, audition or interview. Legitimate agents and
managers qualify and select clients who they believe have above average
potential and work on a commission basis.
We wish each and every one of you best wishes for upper most success in
all your endeavors.

Quick Tips For Casting Submissions That Get Results Here & Everywhere
1. Don't write overlong brag gabs. If your acting is good, you work will show it.
2. Don't write casting people with "I'm perfect for the part," That's their job to determine.
3. Don't refer to profiles on social sites (MySpace, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.).
4. Don't post multiple headshots that are virtually the same.
5. Include at least one full body shot in your composite or gallery.
6. Don't exaggerate a student film into a CBS prime time special. They know better/
7. Don't send pix two or more years old. You have to appear at the audition.
8. Don't fawn the project ("I'd just love to be in your great....") It comes off phony.
9. Do enter the title of the project for what you are submitting. Casting people aren't psychics
10. Do state a theatrical age range. No, it is not passe'. It helps.
11. Do state height (in stocking feet, not with lifts or high heels) and honest weight.
12. Do (sure it's o.k. to) briefly mention hobbies and interests. You never know.
13. Do make your cover letter friendly, but not obsequeous or seductive.
...and when you are asked to audition, dress to look the part or at least the
essence of the screen/stage play. commercial, or modelling job.
REMEMBER: Legitimate Agents & Talent Managers Never Charge Fees In Advance For Representation
About Casting Call Listings The casting calls listed at the top
of the page are comprised of major trade news releases and our own
sources which may or not be "in the trades." All casting calls are evaluated
and validated. We do not accept casting calls from local or student
filmmakers.
FAQ
Why do you not list unpaid extra or student film work?
This is not a reflection upon the filmmaker/videomaker or the production.
As a commercial talent management company, we cannot. However, we do urge
all up in coming, or even seasoned actors to consider roles or extras
in unpaid situations. Evaluate the production and producer/director.
Virtually every major star, from Bette Davis to Sandra Bullock to
Kristen Stewart, Bogie to Fascinelli, has done unpaid work coming up the ladder for experience,
resume credits and the art of acting. Just be sure the production and
your participation is right for you. While CI does not negotiate for
unpaid roles, we do guide our clients on good choices.
Why do I see casting calls on other sites I don't see on yours?
Unlike "pay for play" talent services who charge fees, we have no need
to bloat our casting listings with frivilous, unverified or even
bogus/dangerous calls. If you have no agent, manager or qualified talent
director, subscribe to "Back Stage" and "Variety."
